“Filmmaking & You” with Anaiis Cisco

WGS is also excited to co-sponsor the Civics Collective Initiative’s upcoming event, “Filmmaking & You,” featuring filmmaker and educator Anaiis Cisco.

Cisco’s work explores the lived experiences, creativity, and inner worlds of Black girls and women through film and multimedia storytelling. During this program, she will discuss her artistic practice and lead a workshop introducing participants to filmmaking as a tool for creative expression and social engagement.

This event will provide students with an opportunity to explore storytelling, creativity, and the power of art to build connection, reflection, and understanding.

Joseph Lee: Nothing More of This Land

WGS is pleased to co-sponsor a visit by Joseph Lee, an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Vox, and The Guardian. Lee is also the author of Nothing More of This Land: Community, Power, and the Search for Indigenous Identity, named one of Time‘s Top 10 Memoirs of 2025.

Through his memoir, Lee explores questions of indigeneity, family history, community, and belonging while reflecting on the ongoing realities of settler colonialism. During his visit, he will participate in a talk and panel discussion with Professor LeShae Henderson (Sociology) on themes of identity, land, power, and storytelling.

This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with issues of gender, race, indigeneity, colonialism, and community through both personal narrative and historical analysis.

Hosted by the Department of History and Classics and co-sponsored by WGS, this event features Zoe Venditozzi and Claire Mitchell, co-authors of How to Kill a Witch: The Patriarchy’s Guide to Silencing Women and hosts of the Witches of Scotland podcast.

Drawing on their research into Scotland’s witch trials, Venditozzi and Mitchell will discuss the persecution of women accused of witchcraft and the ways gender, power, and social control shaped these historical events.
